Following the recent Balasore train tragedy that garnered global attention, another train derailment has occurred in Odisha, causing concern. The incident took place in Bargarh district, where five wagons of a goods train carrying limestone reportedly derailed near the Mendhapali area.
According to sources, the train was operated by a private cement company and was en route from the Dunguri limestone mines to the company's manufacturing factory. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the mishap.
Authorities from the cement company and local police quickly responded to the situation upon receiving information about the incident. They have initiated an investigation into the matter to determine the cause of the derailment.
The Railway department clarified that it bears no responsibility for the incident as the infrastructure, including the narrow gauge railway track, rolling stock (engine and wagons), and maintenance, are solely managed by the private cement company. The railway confirmed that the derailment occurred on a private narrow gauge rail line between the Dungri limestone mines and the cement plant of ACC Bargarh, which is completely separate from the Indian Railway system.
Efforts are underway to address the situation and ensure the safety and proper functioning of the private rail line.
