Gujarat's Kutch region is preparing for Cyclone Biparjoy, which is expected to make landfall on June 15. To ensure minimal damage, authorities have taken precautionary measures.
Western Railways announced the cancellation of 56 trains on Monday in the affected areas, with an additional 95 trains set to be cancelled on Tuesday due to Cyclone Biparjoy.
The severe cyclonic storm is forecasted to have sustained winds of 125-135 kmph, gusting up to 150 kmph. Its projected path indicates a northward movement until June 14, followed by a north-northeastward trajectory crossing Saurashtra, Kutch, and adjoining Pakistani coasts by June 15.
Meanwhile on Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi conducted a thorough assessment of the circumstances surrounding Cyclone Biparjoy, which is anticipated to escalate into a "highly intense cyclonic storm" by Thursday. During the review meeting focused on Cyclone Biparjoy, PM Modi instructed officials to undertake all necessary actions to facilitate the evacuation of individuals residing in susceptible regions. Additionally, He also emphasized the importance of providing uninterrupted access to essential services for those affected by Cyclone Biparjoy. Furthermore, he urged officials to guarantee the continuous operation of control rooms, functioning round the clock.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) warned that Cyclone Biparjoy has the potential to become the longest-lasting cyclone in the Arabian Sea, based on historical data from 1965 to 2022 for the month of June.
Fishermen have been advised to stay away from the sea, and a high-level meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi took place to ensure the safety of people in the affected areas.
