The Congress party has registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Amit Malviya, the IT cell chief of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), for posting an animated video that allegedly portrayed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in a negative light. The complaint was filed by Ramesh Babu, an advocate from the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee's communications department.
The FIR was filed under sections 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc., and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The complaint accuses Malviya of defaming Congress and its leaders while creating enmity between different communities through the edited video and accompanying messages.
In the tweet, Amit Malviya stated, "Rahul Gandhi is dangerous and playing an insidious game." Additionally, he shared an animated video featuring altered versions of Mr. Gandhi's speeches.
Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya tweeted that the FIR against Amit Malviya is politically motivated and questioned whether Rahul Gandhi should be considered an individual, group, or class. He stated that they would challenge the case in court to ensure justice.
In response, Priyank Kharge, the Congress Minister for Information Technology and Biotechnology, dismissed the BJP's allegations of a mala-fide intention behind the FIR. He emphasized the need to identify the creators and distributors of the video and the spreading of false information.
The FIR against Amit Malviya marks a significant development in the ongoing political tensions between the Congress party and the BJP.
