Former Cricketer Ambati Rayudu Begins Political Career in Andhra Pradesh

Hyderabad, June 30, 2023 - Ambati Rayudu, 37-year-old former Indian cricketer, has officially announced his foray into Andhra Pradesh politics, marking the beginning of his second innings in public service. After retiring from cricket and playing his last match in the Indian Premier League finals on May 29 for the Chennai Super Kings, Rayudu has been actively engaging with the people of his native Guntur district to understand their concerns at the grassroots level.

During his visit to Mutluru village in the Vatticherukuru block, Rayudu shared his intentions with local reporters, stating, "I shall soon enter politics in Andhra Pradesh to serve the people. Before that, I have decided to visit different parts of the district to know the people's pulse and understand their problems."

Rayudu expressed his commitment to understanding the needs of the people and formulating a concrete action plan to address their issues. While he hasn't made a definitive decision on which political platform he will choose, he clarified that he is not considering contesting the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Guntur or Machilipatnam parliamentary constituency, dismissing speculations in that regard.

As part of his engagement with the local community, Rayudu visited the Mulankareshwari temple in Aminabad village and offered special prayers. He also visited the Sai Baba Temple and Bala Yesu Church in Phirangipuram, demonstrating his respect for religious diversity.

Although Rayudu has not announced his political affiliation, his social media activity has sparked speculation that he may join the YSR Congress party. In an earlier tweet on April 19, he praised Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy for his speech in Srikakulam district, indicating his admiration and support.

Rayudu's interest in public service was further evident when he met Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy and the Chennai Super Kings management after their victory in the IPL-2023 tournament. He expressed enthusiasm for discussing the development of world-class sports infrastructure and education for the underprivileged youth, emphasizing the government's commitment to youth empowerment.

While Rayudu acknowledged his previous meetings with the Chief Minister, he clarified that he had not discussed politics during those interactions. He intends to tour every village and town in Guntur before making a decision on his political platform.
