The challenging night landing trial, hailed as a significant step forward, demonstrates the Navy's determination to prioritize Aatma Nirbhar Bharath or self-sufficiency. Commending the Indian Navy on this achievement, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh took to Twitter to express his congratulations. He praised the skills, perseverance, and professionalism displayed by the crew of the Vikrant and the Naval pilots, emphasizing the significance of their accomplishment.
Earlier this year, the INS Vikrant hosted day landings for both the Russian-origin MiG-29K and the prototype of the indigenously developed Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas jets. These successful day operations further showcased the aircraft carrier's capabilities and its contribution to India's defense preparedness.
Commissioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in September of the previous year, the INS Vikrant holds a prominent position as India's first indigenously-built aircraft carrier. With a weight exceeding 40,000 tonnes, it places India among an elite group of nations capable of constructing such vessels. Equipped with advanced air defense and anti-ship missile systems, the INS Vikrant has the capacity to accommodate 30 fighter jets and helicopters, cementing its significance as a strategic asset for maintaining peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
The construction of the INS Vikrant, completed at an estimated cost of Rs 23,000 crore, represents a major milestone in India's journey towards self-reliance in defense production.
