Indian Security Forces Shoot Down Pakistani Drone in Amritsar, Investigation Underway

Amritsar: The Border Security Force (BSF) in Punjab successfully intercepted and neutralized a drone that violated Indian airspace, according to a statement released by BSF Punjab Frontier on Thursday. The incident occurred on June 7, 2023, at approximately 9:10 PM when BSF troops detected the presence of a suspected drone emitting a low buzzing sound near Bhaini Rajputana village in the Amritsar district. Acting promptly in accordance with established protocols, BSF personnel swiftly responded to intercept the drone.

In a collaborative effort between BSF troops and Punjab Police, a joint search operation was conducted on June 7 in the vicinity of Bhaini Rajputana village, resulting in the recovery of a Pakistani drone. The drone was found in a damaged state within a farming field adjacent to the Rajatal-Bharopal-Daoke Tri-junction, located on the outskirts of Bhaini Rajputana village.

The drone in question has been identified as a Quadcopter model from the DJI Matrice 300RTK series, according to the BSF.

This incident follows a worrisome trend of increased incursions by Pakistani drones into Indian territory. Only two days prior, on June 5, BSF personnel had successfully taken down another Pakistani drone across the Attari-Wagah border, which was found to be carrying 3.2 kg of heroin. Furthermore, on June 3, security forces had discovered over 5 kilograms of heroin allegedly airdropped by a Pakistani drone near the India-Pakistan border in Punjab's Amritsar. In the previous month, the BSF intercepted and brought down a Pakistani drone that had violated Indian airspace in the Amritsar sector of Punjab. Notably, the recovered drone was found to be transporting narcotics.
