ISRO Successfully Launches GSLV Mission, Deploys NVS-01 Navigation Satellite

Chennai, May 29, 2023: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) achieved another milestone today as it successfully launched the GSLV-F12/NVS-01 mission from the second launch pad at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre SHAR, Sriharikota. With precise timing at 10:42 am, the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) lifted off, carrying the NVS-01 navigation satellite weighing approximately 2,232 kg.

The primary objective of this GSLV mission is to deploy the NVS-01 satellite into a Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit. Once in the intended orbit, subsequent orbit raising maneuvers will be performed to position the satellite accurately. Notably, the NVS-01 satellite is equipped with navigation payloads in L1, L5, and S bands. A significant development in this mission is the inclusion of an indigenous atomic clock on board the NVS-01, marking the first time such a clock has been flown in a satellite.

After a flight duration of approximately 19 minutes, the NVS-01 satellite was successfully injected into the Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit, as confirmed by ISRO. Further orbit-raising maneuvers will be conducted to maneuver the NVS-01 satellite into its final Geosynchronous orbit.

ISRO provided additional details about the GSLV-F12 mission, revealing that it is the 15th flight of India's GSLV and the 9th flight featuring an indigenous cryogenic stage. It is also the 6th operational flight of GSLV with the indigenous cryogenic stage. The GSLV-F12 payload fairing has a configuration of 4 meters in diameter, featuring an ogive version.

The successful launch and deployment of the NVS-01 satellite mark another significant achievement for ISRO in advancing India's space exploration capabilities.
