NIA conducts raids in south Kashmir targeting newly formed terror outfits

NIA

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) intensified its crackdown on newly formed terror outfits in South Kashmir on Tuesday, July 11. The agency conducted searches in Shopian (Turkawangam and Kapran villages) and Pulwama districts, leading to the seizure of incriminating literature and digital devices.

The raids targeted the residential premises of sympathizers, cadres, hybrid terrorists, and Over Ground Workers (OGWs) associated with recently established factions and affiliates of banned Pakistan-backed terror groups such as Laskhar-e-Taiba (LeT), Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HM), and Al-Badr.

These operations are part of the NIA's ongoing investigation into a case involving the conspiracy and planning of terrorist attacks in the Union territory. The proscribed terrorist organizations intended to carry out these attacks using sticky bombs, improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and small arms.

In a related development, the NIA achieved a significant breakthrough in Delhi, where a court convicted four operatives of the Indian Mujahideen (IM), a banned terror outfit, for conspiring to wage war against the Indian government and executing terrorist attacks across the country. The conviction was a result of arrests made by the NIA in 2012.

The NIA's recent raids in Jammu and Kashmir on June 26 also targeted the Pakistan-backed terror network of Overground Workers (OWG). Additionally, a raid was conducted at the residence of a local active terrorist associated with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), resulting in the seizure of pertinent documents.

Assisted by the Jammu and Kashmir Police and paramilitary forces, NIA officials carried out searches at various locations in North and South Kashmir linked to sympathizers, cadres, and overground workers associated with different terror outfits. The ongoing investigations encompass the activities of OGWs and cadres supporting newly launched groups like The Resistance Front (TRF), Mujahideen Gazwat-ul-Hind (MGH), Jammu & Kashmir Freedom Fighters (JKFF), Kashmir Tigers, PAAF, and United Liberation Front Jammu and Kashmir (ULFJ&K), among others.
