PM Modi Receives Warm Welcome from Indian Diaspora as He Arrives in Sydney

Sydney, May 23, 2023: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Sydney, Australia today following his departure from Papua New Guinea, where he successfully hosted the FIPIC Summit III. The Australian government expressed that PM Modi's visit builds upon the Australia-India Annual Leaders' Summit held earlier this year in March, as well as the discussions at the recent G7 Summit and the Quad Leaders' meeting in Hiroshima over the weekend.

In an official press release, the Australian government highlighted that PM Modi and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese will engage in discussions on various matters, including trade and investment. Both leaders aim to explore ways to enhance trade between Canberra and New Delhi through a comprehensive economic cooperation agreement.

Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra stated, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a bilateral meeting with Australian PM Anthony Albanese, meet Governor General David Hurley, and interact with leading CEOs. Additionally, PM Modi will address the Indian community here. Australian PM Anthony Albanese will host a dinner in honor of PM Modi."

Renewable energy development, fostering people-to-people connections, and measures to strengthen security and defense cooperation will also be key areas of focus during the discussions. The leaders will address maritime security concerns and deliberate on strategies to establish a secure, stable, and prosperous Indo-Pacific region. Albanese emphasized the shared commitment of India and Australia towards a stable and prosperous Indo-Pacific, noting their pivotal role in supporting this vision.

Furthermore, Australian business leaders are eager to explore opportunities stemming from the Australia-India CEO forum held in Mumbai earlier this year. The forum opened avenues for productive discussions on economic collaboration and trade partnerships.

PM Modi and Albanese participated in a community event in Sydney, celebrating the vibrant and diverse Indian diaspora, which the Australian government considers an integral part of its multicultural community. Albanese expressed that the friendship and partnership between the two countries have never been stronger, and he looks forward to joining PM Modi in celebrating Australia's thriving Indian community in Sydney.

The visit serves as a significant milestone in reinforcing bilateral ties between India and Australia, promoting trade cooperation, and fostering cultural exchanges between the two nations.
