Upon his arrival in the country, where he was set to lead his national team, Messi was detained by the Chinese Border Police at the airport. It has been reported that the issue arose due to complications with Messi's visa. He had mistakenly presented his Spanish passport instead of his Argentina passport, which lacked the necessary Chinese visa. Fortunately, after approximately 30 minutes, the matter was resolved, and Messi was able to proceed beyond the airport authorities.

It is worth noting that Messi's career has had a significant connection with China, particularly during the 2008 Olympics, when he achieved a momentous feat on Chinese soil. As a member of the Argentine team, he played a pivotal role in securing the Olympic Gold Medal by defeating Nigeria in the final match. At the esteemed Bird's Nest Stadium, Messi, who was just 21 years old at the time, contributed to Angel Di Maria's decisive goal. Throughout the tournament, the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner showcased his exceptional skills by scoring two goals.
