Tragic Bus Fire on Samruddhi Mahamarg Expressway Claims 26 Lives in Maharashtra's Buldhana District

BULDHANA, July 01, 2023: A tragic incident occurred on Saturday when a bus traveling from Yavatmal to Pune caught fire on the Samruddhi Mahamarg Expressway in Buldhana, resulting in the death of 26 people and injuries to seven others.

According to Sadanand Sonkamble, the in-charge of Bibi police station in Buldhana, the incident took place around 1:30 am. The bus, carrying a total of 33 passengers, overturned after a tire burst, causing flames to engulf the vehicle. Subsequently, the diesel tank of the bus caught fire.


Among the victims, three were children. The exact cause of the accident is yet to be determined, as stated by the Buldhana SP. The injured individuals were immediately taken to Buldhana Civil Hospital for medical treatment.

Expressing deep sorrow over the horrific accident in Buldhana district, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced a relief fund of Rs 5 lakh for the relatives of each deceased person. Furthermore, an inquiry into the incident has been ordered by the chief minister.


The Maharashtra deputy CM, Devendra Fadnavis, assured that the state government would cover the expenses for the treatment of the injured individuals. He also emphasized that prompt assistance is being provided by the district and police administration.
