Chennai, June 26 : Kamal Haasan, the actor-turned-politician, presented a car to a woman in Coimbatore who resigned from her position as a bus driver following a controversy related to issuing a travel ticket to DMK MP Kanimozhi last week.
The car was given to Sharmila, the first female bus driver in Coimbatore, on behalf of the "Kamal Panbattu Maiam" (Kamal Cultural Center) with the intention of supporting her in becoming a driver-entrepreneur, as stated by Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) leader.
Expressing his distress over the recent debate surrounding Sharmila, who was seen as an exemplary figure for women her age, Kamal Haasan emphasized that Sharmila should not limit herself to being just a driver. He expressed his desire to inspire and create many more individuals like Sharmila.
Sharmila will now utilize the car for a rental service and venture into entrepreneurship, Kamal Haasan added.
Earlier last week, immediately after Kanimozhi traveled in Sharmila's bus from Gandhipuram to Peelamedu in Coimbatore, Sharmila announced her decision to relinquish her "dream job." She claimed that her co-worker disrespected the DMK Parliamentarian and accused her management of accusing her of seeking publicity by inviting notable personalities to travel in the bus. Sharmila stated that she had informed her management about the MP's visit, but she was unable to tolerate the "disrespect" shown to the DMK leader.
However, the transport company denied having any knowledge of Kanimozhi's visit and maintained that Sharmila had left the job voluntarily.
