In an unprecedented move, the picturesque region of Kashmir is making final preparations to host the highly anticipated G20 Summit, set to take place from May 22 to May 24. The event is expected to have a transformative impact on the tourism and commerce industries in the area.

Preparations are in full swing in the city of Srinagar, where the third G20 tourism working group meeting will convene at the Sheri Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC) located near the renowned Dal Lake. With construction projects underway, including the installation of hoods and expedited road repairs, the city is eager to showcase its charm and hospitality.

To ensure a memorable experience, the Department of Tourism Kashmir has taken several crucial measures, aiming to enhance global awareness of Kashmir's potential as a tourist destination. The G20 Summit is projected to attract a record number of visitors, offering a fresh perspective on the region's tourism industry. Local artisans and the handicraft sector anticipate global opportunities that may arise from the conference.

In light of the upcoming summit, the security of the event is of paramount importance. Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Vijay Kumar, together with Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Vijay Kumar Bidhuri, recently chaired a review meeting with field officers to discuss comprehensive security arrangements. The objective is to prevent potential terrorist threats during the summit, and officers have been instructed to deploy magistrates and police personnel in advance, particularly in vulnerable areas.

As India assumes the G20 presidency from December 1, 2022, to November 30, 2023, representatives from the European Union, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, and Turkey will be in attendance. The G20 Summit serves as a premier platform for international economic cooperation, shaping global architecture and governance on key economic matters.

By hosting this influential gathering, Kashmir showcases its potential as a global destination, while simultaneously emphasizing security measures and developmental efforts to ensure a successful and impactful G20 summit. As the world turns its gaze toward Kashmir, the region eagerly awaits the opportunity to shine and contribute to global economic discourse.
