Veteran South Actor Sarath Babu Passes Away at 71: Tributes Pour In

Veteran South actor Sarath Babu passed away at the age of 71 in a Hyderabad hospital. He had been hospitalized since last month and was undergoing treatment for multiple organ failure due to multiple Myeloma. Despite receiving the best medical care, including mechanical ventilation for his lungs and dialysis support for his kidney, Sarath Babu succumbed to his illness. The AIG Hospitals expressed their condolences to his family and fans.

Sarath Babu was renowned for his work in Telugu and Tamil cinema and had shared the screen with notable stars like Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, NTR, and Chiranjeevi. Following the news of his demise, many individuals from the South film industry paid tribute to the late actor. Kamal Haasan, in a tweet, described Sarath Babu as a great actor and a dear friend, reminiscing about their collaborations in Tamil cinema. Prakash Raj also expressed his gratitude for Sarath Babu's warmth and encouragement throughout his career.


Born as Satyam Babu Dixitulu, Sarath Babu made his acting debut in 1973 with the Telugu film "Rama Rajyam" and subsequently worked with renowned director K Balachander in "Pattina Pravesam." His association with Balachander continued with the film "Nizhalgal Nijamagiradhu," where he starred alongside Kamal Haasan. Sarath Babu also appeared in films with Rajinikanth, including "Annamalai" and "Muthu." His filmography extended to Malayalam movies such as "Sarapancharam" and Kannada films like "Ranachandi" and "Amrutha Varshini." His last appearances were in the Tamil film "Vasantha Mullai" and Pawan Kalyan's "Vakeel Saab."
