Official Announcement: Venkat Prabhu to Direct Vijay in "Thalapathy 68"

After much anticipation, it has been confirmed that filmmaker Venkat Prabhu will helm actor Vijay's upcoming film. The project, tentatively titled "Thalapathy 68," will be produced by AGS Entertainment, headed by Kalpathi S Aghoram, and feature music composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja.

The news was unveiled through a teaser announcement on Vijay's official Twitter handle and by AGS's Archana Kalpathi, who serves as a creative producer for the film. Venkat Prabhu, renowned for directing Ajith Kumar's blockbuster "Mankatha," now joins the esteemed group of directors who have worked with both Vijay and his rival Ajith Kumar, including AR Murugadoss, Vasanth Sai, SJ Suryah, KS Ravikumar, Vikraman, Ezhil, AL Vijay, and Perarasu. Notably, Janaki Soundar's 1995 film "Rajavin Parvaiyile" featured both superstars.

"Thalapathy 68" holds special significance as it marks AGS Entertainment's 25th production and their second collaboration with Vijay following the success of 2019's "Bigil." AGS Entertainment stated that this film will be their biggest venture to date, promising an entertaining experience for all audiences and featuring top-notch global-standard technicians.

Additionally, the film will reunite Vijay and Yuvan Shankar Raja after their previous collaboration on the 2003 film "Pudhiya Geethai." However, details regarding the film's title, cast, and crew are yet to be revealed. "Thalapathy 68" is scheduled for release in 2024.

Venkat Prabhu, known for delivering blockbuster hits such as "Mankatha," "Chennai 28," and "Maanaadu," recently directed the Tamil-Telugu bilingual film "Custody," starring Naga Chaitanya, which premiered earlier this month.

As for Vijay, his most recent appearance was in "Varisu," and audiences can look forward to seeing him next in Lokesh Kanagaraj's "Leo," set to hit screens on October 19th this year.
