According to officials, an illegal coal mine collapse near Dhanbad in Jharkhand has resulted in the feared deaths of three individuals, with several others still trapped underground. The incident occurred at the Bhowra Colliery Area of Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL), approximately 21 km away from Dhanbad, around 10:30 am.
The exact number of casualties and the extent of injuries are yet to be determined, as rescue operations are currently underway, as confirmed by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Abhishek Kumar from Sindri.
An eyewitness, cited by PTI, stated that numerous local villagers were engaged in illegal mining when the mine suddenly collapsed. "With the assistance of locals, three individuals were rescued from the debris and rushed to a nearby hospital, where they were pronounced dead by doctors," the eyewitness explained.
The situation remains ongoing, and authorities are working tirelessly to rescue those trapped in the mine.
