Train Collision in Odisha Leaves 179 Injured



New Delhi, June 2, 2023: A collision occurred this evening between a passenger train and a freight train in Odisha's Balasore district, resulting in a significant number of injuries. Reports suggest that multiple individuals may be trapped in the wreckage. As of now, 47 injured individuals have been admitted to a local hospital.

Rescue teams have promptly arrived at the scene where the Coromandel Express collided with the freight train. Disturbing visuals reveal four derailed coaches.


The Coromandel Express was en route from Kolkata to Chennai when the incident took place.


Supervising the rescue operations is Sudhanshu Sarangi, the Chief of Odisha Fire Services. Medical colleges and hospitals in and around Balasore have been put on alert to handle the influx of injured individuals.


Over a hundred personnel from the National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) and the state's disaster relief agency are actively engaged in searching for any passengers who may be trapped and working to clear the debris hindering their access.
